Math Connections

All you need is a composition or spiral notebook to start a math journal

Vocabulary instruction is very important when learning any new concept, especially in math.  This activity combines the use of math vocabulary, technology, and geometry.

It is convenient to use real world artifacts such as newspapers, catalogs, advertisements, and sale flyers to create mathematical problems.  Students can create and solve word problems based on the content of the artifacts.

TIP: Be sure to check all pages for content that is not appropriate for your students.

Word Problem Strategies

With this easy to use strategy, students focus on the word problem as they would a story or text.  Students will read the problem, think about the problem, Identify the important information, re-read the problem, visualize, represent, solve, then explain/justify their answer.  See the attached bookmark for an easy reminder.

With this handout you can easily go over vocabulary, not only in Math but with other subjects as well.  Easy to print and use for your every day lessons.
